The majority of smokers would like to quit. Many have repeatedly tried without success and their motivation has given way to a feeling of resignation. However, with the right methods smoking cessation can be successful if there is sufficient motivation.
I was a heavy smoker for many years myself and I know from my personal experience how difficult it is to finally quit.
In my practice, I offer in two separate smoking cessation programs: one for individuals and one for groups. These two programs only differ in that the group sessions not only include the contents of the individual program, but also include regular meeting times in which the group members can share and offer support.
The following approach has proven reliable:
1st: Initial Interview: The first appointment consists of an approximately 90-minute interview, where I will closely analyze not only smoking behavior, but also the motivation to quit. Please note that if at this point the motivation to quit turns out to be relatively low, I will postpone treatment for two weeks and begin with measures to promote and support such motivation. Once there is sufficient motivation, we will establish the date for the final cigarette (or cigar or pipe).
2nd: Acupuncture and Drug Therapy: During the second appointment I will administer body and ear acupuncture to help fight the craving for nicotine alleviate withdrawal symptoms. Not only will I insert standard needles into specific points on the body which will remain for about 25 minutes; I will also insert small needles into the ear which will remain for several days and, if required, can be stimulated with a magnet. Additionally, I will prescribe homeopathic and/or phyto-therapeutic medications that will reduce typical symptoms such as restlessness, nervousness, concentration and sleep disturbances, aggression, binge eating and cravings to a manageable level.
Furthermore, I will teach relaxation exercises and behavioral strategies which may prevent any sudden “weaknesses”, and instead impede the possibility of relapse and maintain motivation with a balanced mental and emotional state.
3rd: Follow-up Sessions: On the third and seventh day after the first acupuncture appointment I will administer additional acupuncture to further support and establish the cessation.
Group Program: If you are better able to face challenges in community with other people (6–10 participants) then consider the group program. In addition to points 1–3, the following dates are an integral part of the group program:
one 90-minute group session with the conjoint smoking the final cigarette
The price for the smoking cessation program is approximately the same as the price of a three month supply of cigarettes (with a daily consumption of one box).
The price for the initial appointment is 120€. All following appointments must be booked together and cost 195€, payable in advance. The price of medication is not included and will cost about 75€.
The group program will cost an additional 95€.
The dates for the next groups are (please register as soon as possible):
